West Sumatra declares Bukittinggi as a center of tourism development

Padang (ANTARA News) - The West Sumatra Cultural and Tourism Agency has declared Bukittinggi City a center of tourism development for West Sumatra, covering Bukittinggi, Agam, Tanah Datar, Pasaman and Pasaman Barat regencies.

The decision is part of a document of the masterplan on regional tourism development of West Sumatra province, Head of the West Sumatra Cultural and Tourism Agency James Hellyward said in Padang on Friday.

He said, as a tourism development center for West Sumatra in Bukittinggi, the center is constantly developing various themes and attractions like recreational centers, centers of scientific development, convention facilities, cullinary centers, healthcare facilities and outbound activities.

He also said that Bukittinggi as a tourist city also serves as a tourism service center for Agam, 50 Kota, Tanah Datar and Pasaman, which offered many natural and cultural tourist objects.

Agam regency is developing and promoting its Mutiara Tiku beaches, using the locations in the corridor linking Bukittinggi, Lake Maninjau, Pariaman and Padang cities.

Tanah Datar, especially Nagari Pandai Sikek, is develping their handicraft centers also using the corridor through Padang, Pandai Sikek and Bukittinggi.

Pasaman regency is developing the Rimbo Panti and Tugu Khatulistiwa areas, especially in the cultural sector.

Pasaman Barat regency has tourist potentials, such as the Sasak and Air Bangis coastal regions, including marine tourism, James said.
