Holiday season, special packages boosting hotel occupancy rate

The one-month school holiday and low-cost room packages have bestowed the island's hotels with almost full occupancy this month.

Hotels in main tourism spots like Kuta, Sanur and Jimbaran reported occupancy rates as high as 95 percent.

The school holiday period started June 14 and will end July 14.

"During the holiday season, our hotel's occupancy reaches 90 to 95 percent, of which 10 to 25 percent are domestic guests," director of marketing communications of the Laguna Resort and Spa, Sugeng Purnomo, said Thursday.

He said the Nusa Dua resort was now offering a special package for Rp 1.8 million per night. The special package, valid for one month, includes breakfast for two, afternoon tea and a 24-hour butler service.

"Even though increasing fuel prices have affected the hotel industry, it does not affect the domestic market as much, especially for visitors on high incomes," he said.

The Kuta Hard Rock Hotel's assistant marketing manager Lucia Dwi Cahyani said the hotel's occupancy rate would likely stay above 90 percent until mid-July.

"Mid-July is the end of the holiday season for schools outside Bali," she said.

She added during the holiday period, 55 percent of total guests were from Indonesia.

"We are offering a special price for domestic guests during the holiday season," she said. The special price has been set at Rp 1.29 million per room per night.

"That includes breakfast for two adults and two children under 12," she said. The package will last until the end of July.

Bali Hyatt's public relations manager Meutia Mahardhika said her hotel was also seeing a significant increase in occupancy rates.

"Our hotel will likely have 80 to 90 percent occupancy throughout July and August," she said.

She added the hotel, located in Sanur, was also offering a special package of Rp 988,000 per room per night, which includes breakfast, a children's camp and tennis court access.

"Our offer is quite attractive for a five-star hotel," she said. She said the hotel had recorded a 10 percent increase in domestic guests.

Unlike the other hotels offering special prices during the holiday season, the Intercontinental Bali Resort in Jimbaran maintains its normal room rates due to high demand for its rooms.

"We don't have special packages for the holiday season because of high demand for hotel rooms during the period," said Intercontinental's public relations coordinator Tasya Aulia.

Even without special offers, the hotel's occupancy rate is 88.76 percent with the room prices ranging from Rp 1.9 million to Rp 3.6 million.

General Manager of Villamahapala, Jeffrey Wibisono, said his villa targeted honeymooners, so he did not offer any special packages for the holiday season.

"The holiday season does not affect our occupancy rate because most people who come here for a vacation come with their families and are looking for a room below Rp 1 million," he said.

He added the villas' occupancy rates were 30 percent, with a room rate of Rp 2.5 million per night.

"This villa just opened three months ago. Our target market is honeymooners, so we do not expect a significant increase in our occupancy rate during the holiday season," he said.
