The South Halmahera regency administration will develop Nusa Raa isle into a tourist resort for its beauty and marine wealth.

"The isle has very beautiful white sandy beaches and enchanting undersea panoramas," South Halmahera deputy regent Rusly A Wally said here on Monday.

The isle is located near Babang seaport in South Halmahera regent, North Maluku. From Babang it takes only 10 minutes by a speedboat to reach Nusa Raa.

The local authorities have outlined plans to construct a number of supporting and infrastructure facilities on the isle. They will then promote the island domestically and internationally in cooperation with travel agencies.

The regent administration is also inviting investors to join the development of the isle and promising to give various incentives to businessmen investing on the isle, he said.

In addition to Nusa Raa Isle, other interesting places in South Halmahera include Guraici Beach, an old fortress, Bacan sultan's palace, a rubber plantation developed during the Dutch colonial era, and Widi isle.

Widi isle has a marine park which is no less beautiful than the one in Bunaken, North Sulawesi, or Wakatobi, Southeast Sulawesi, said Rusly. The isle also has a white sandy beach. (**)
